Director of Congregational Learning
Dr. Harvey Raben assumes the position of Director of Congregational Learning at Congregation Agudas Achim on July 1, 2009. He comes to us from San Diego where he worked for 7 years for Congregation Beth Israel and the San Diego Jewish Academy.
Dr. Raben is an experienced Jewish educator who has served several communities in North America as an administrator and educational leader. He received his B.A. in Social and Political Philosophy at the University of California Berkeley; a M.A. in Jewish education from Brandeis University and his Doctorate from the University of Toronto.
In San Diego Dr. Raben initiated a strong Torah curriculum, a welcoming high school program for teens incorporating formal and informal elements, and an environment that welcomed families and built Jewish identity.
His wife Sandy, also a Jewish educator, will join Dr. Raben in Austin. They have 3 children, Amit, Zev and Shimmy who live in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and College Park, Maryland.
